Start building your positive mindset.

Here are some simple ways to start building a strong, positive mindset. Negativity is a habit. It will take practice to make a new habit to replace it.

•Look for the Positives-be present and notice the good things around you. They are always there.

•Be realistic about expectations-this helps us avoid unnecessary disappointment. Perfect is not a realistic expectation. It is fine to strive for perfection, but if we are expecting ourselves to never make an error, we will be disappointed. Errors provide information for learning.

•Deal with the fear of criticism-mistakes will happen. Give yourself room to learn. Others are seldom as critical as we think.

•Challenge your negative thoughts- they are not facts and they are not who you are. They usually arise out of habit. Create new things to say to yourself or argue in your own defense.

•Surround yourself with positive people whenever possible. If you have to be around negative people, have a signal that you give yourself to remind you not to buy into their negativity.

•Start using positive wording now. It is a simple little nudge to help you and those around you feel more positive. Use 'get to' instead of 'have to', Use 'remember' instead of 'don't forget.'

Having a positive outlook doesn't mean that you are ignoring reality. It doesn't mean that you are happy no matter what is going on in the world. You are just giving yourself a positive base. This will help you be more resilient when difficult things come along.
